Peter J. Wardle

Peter Wardle's background includes extensive experience in the fields of venture capital and investment banking. Peter was founding GP of Newtek Ventures I and II from 1984 until 2002. Both funds were capitalized by institutional investors, including John Deere pension, State of Michigan Retirement Fund, Mutual of Omaha and John Hancock Insurance.

Newtek invested in 44 companies, mostly early stage. Industries included semiconductors, semiconductor equipment, IT software and hardware, biotechnology, medical devices and robotics. Of the 44 investments, 28 attained shareholder liquidity through IPO or acquisition. Notable investments included Palm Pilot, KLA-Tencor and Saleslogix. The Saleslogix investment returned the fund's entire original capital to Newtek LP'S.

Prior to founding Newtek Ventures in 1983, Wardle had been a private venture investor for 16 years. During that time, he made personal venture investments in 15 high-tech companies, all of which were located on the West Coast. Before founding Newtek Ventures in 1983, venture capital investments made by Mr. Wardle during the previous 16 years produced over a 37% annual compounded rate of return before management expenses and taxes.

Mr. Wardle served as Managing Partner of H.F. Swift & Co. (acquired in 1992 by Piper Jaffray), a San Francisco based NYSE investment banking firm, from 1966 to 1978. It was during this period he began making venture investments and managing venture capital private placements. Mr. Wardle's career began at Dean Witter/Reynolds, where he was employed until becoming a Managing Partner of H. F. Swift & Co. Peter graduated from Dartmouth College with a major in Economics and History.
